John brought the meeting to order, followed by introductions all-around.  The meeting minutes of March 29th  were approved , and will be posted on the www.jeffersoncentennial.com website.  Ruth Ann suggested that John needs additional help, requesting that someone volunteer to record the meeting minutes.
Earlier Planning Committee decisions were reviewed and discussed.

Committee Reports:

Steering Committee   The need of an Organizational Chart is emerging from early committee growth.  John outlined a2009 Centennial Steering Committee comprised of Committee Chairs and the Jefferson Alumni Association (JAA) President, responsible to the JAA Executive Committee.

Future JAA Bylaws will clarify our 2009 Centennial authority under the JAA Executive Committee, which delegates independent authority and responsibility to the 2009  Centennial Steering Committee.  Periodic reports will be made to the JAA Executive Committee.  The 2009 Centennial Planning Committee and Steering Committee are meeting jointly for the time being.

John requested help in compiling an accurate Committee List.  All Committee Chairs were requested to finalize their committee member
lists with contact information, and share with John.

Finance Committee
John presented the financial report, with early receipt of 100 Friends of Jefferson and Jefferson Centennial donations.  Out-of-pocket expenses
will be reimbursed upon presentation of paid receipts to Dennis Kucera.

100 Friends of Jefferson campaign
Maggie reported that ~180 solicitation letters have been mailed.  If we are to complete our mailings in April, many more names are needed.  She repeated her urgent request that all committee members send her at least ten names and addresses.

Alumni Association: JAA
Maggie described several JAA activities, including an exciting matching grant to fund a prominent electronic Reader Board on Killingsworth.  Painting of the new JAA offices is nearly complete. The office floor is covered with dozens of trophies for sorting and polishing; in addition, several art pieces are temporarily stored for the 2009 Centennial Art Inventory and Preservation Project.

The JCAB, Jefferson Community Advocacy Board, is a 17-member organization which provides external advocacy and political support in behalf of Jefferson, its Principal, staff, students, and parent/guardian community.  Created in April, 2007, its membership is actively creating partnerships in the City and the N/NE community.

Friday Event Planning: May 29, 2009
An appointment to tour SEI and meet with director Tony Hopson Sr. is scheduled for 9:30 AM, April 16th.  John, Maggie, and Co-chairs Ann and Julie plan to meet with SEI director Tony Hobson Sr. to finalize details.

Alumni Name Lists and Mailings
Louise Steffen ’49 repeated her plea for between 20-25 members. The objective is to create and maintain an updated alumni database with accurate contact information.  Beginning with the class of 1930, each volunteer will be assigned two or three classes, depending on class size.

Each volunteer is expected to visit the Jefferson library, open 9-5, Mon-Fri. to review the assigned class yearbooks.  Class leaders, officers and other prominent class members are to be copied, and the 2004 Directory copied.  The school librarian has authorized our committee members to obtain copies at no charge.  The easy Visitor Pass check-in / check-out at the Main Office on Floor B was reviewed.

Art Preservation  Jason reviewed results of his recent art searches, with
some art pieces of gallery quality.  He plans an organizational meeting
soon to discuss goals, inventory, and fund-raising.

Publicity  Members of this important committee are needed.  A mailing
must go out soon, requesting volunteers and donations. Leah Fletcher
Higgins and Bobbie Peterson O’Hare suggested several inexpensive
strategies to get the message out.

Business Cards
John distributed business cards to committee members. Their purpose is publicize the event and to encourage volunteers to participate. Additional cards have been ordered.  Cards are available for distribution in the Jefferson Main Office.

The next meeting will be rescheduled for Sat. May 3rd.
